Marshall Mtn Is Looking For Public Input

Missoula city and county are considering purchasing Marshall Mountain, a former ski hill near Missoula, to implement habitat restoration, site improvements, new buildings, and additional mountain bike trails.

The draft Marshall Mountain Park Conceptual Master Plan outlines these enhancements and seeks public input. The plan aims to make Marshall Mountain an attractive event venue while prioritizing habitat conservation.

The property is currently leased by the city and county, with a final decision and purchase expected in the winter. The acquisition is anticipated to cost $2.4 million, funded by the City-County Open Space Bond and grants. The draft plan also outlines immediate, essential, and potential future improvements. The estimated annual operating and maintenance cost for Marshall Mountain is projected to be $365,000, with additional expenses for program management and trail maintenance.

The Marshall Mountain Park Conceptual Master Plan was released Friday and announced by the city and county on Monday. The draft plan is open to public comment through June 19 via engangemissoula.com. The plan was developed by the city and county in conjunction with Five Valleys Land Trust, mountain bike advocacy group MTB Missoula, Friends of Marshall Mountain, city of Missoula Parks and Recreation, and the current property owners.
